PKC Probationer Blog

Helping you to help each other…

02 Getting Started

Congratulations! You are just a few clicks away from joining the hi-tech world of Blogs and Wikis…

You will need the following to get started:

  1. A PC or Mac with a working internet connection
  2. A valid email address
  3. About an hour 15 minutes of free time (Thanks, Tan!)
  4. Cups of coffee/tea/Stella Artois/Coke Zero/etc… (optional)

Lets start by setting up your blog.

Go to the edublogs.org website (http://edublogs.org/) and about half way down on the left you’ll see this:

LogDetails

Before you enter anything into the boxes, think carefully!

  • The user name you choose will be the permanent name of your blog (ie: the user name for this blog is “pkcteachers” as you can see from the address bar).
  • NB: If someone else has already chosen the name you want, you will be asked to provide another one.
  • The Name of the Blog is what appears on the Bar at the top of the page and can be changed at any time.
  • Use an email address that you can access easily.

Once you’ve decided what to call your blog, type in the user name, give the blog a name, enter your email address, then click create.

This is a good time to have that coffee as it can sometimes take a minute of two for the email confirming your log-in details to arrive.

Before long, you will receive an email which will say congratulations and will give you your user name and password. The password will be something like ‘e34g98t’ – don’t worry, you don’t have to remember this as you can change the password to something more easily remembered when you have logged in.
Click on the link in the email to be taken to your log in screen and log in using your username and password!

Congratulations! You now have a blog…

For more on how to use your blog, download the WordPress Guide which can be found under the Downloads on the right of the page.

I also hope to be able to run an INSET or twilight session on using Blogs before Christmas… we’ll keep you posted.
